Grape-Growing Regions

Sunny days, cool nights, rolling hills, and winemaking families that go back for generations: southern France is a wonderful place to cultivate wine grapes. Languedoc-Roussillon (or Languedoc, for short), on France's western Mediterranean coast, produces more wine than any other region in France. And Languedoc's vineyards, considered some of the oldest in France, date back to the early Greeks. This 700,000-acre region is responsible for a wide array of wines, from robust red wines to crisp white wines and zesty rosés. Cradled in the valleys of the Pyrenees, it's also a beautiful place to travel.
