Sonoma County is
one of the premier wine regions in California. The "warm days, cool
nights" of this region are ideal for grape growing; ocean breezes and fog allow the
mist to linger and cool the warm valley. This allows the grapes a longer growing time on
the vine resulting in more sugar, fruit flavor and color in the grape.
There are over 55,000 acres of vines planted in Sonoma County with approximately
130,000 tons of grapes being produced. There are close to 200 wineries, with
more than half of these less than 20 years old.
