| Monterey County provides a
climate that is ideally suited for the growing of premium Pinot Noir grapes. Grapes for
our 2000 Pinot Noir came primarily from the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County. This
area is particularly well suited to cool weather varietals because of its long growing
season. In the 2000 vintage, the vineyards experienced a prolonged growing season that
started with a long, drawn out bloom and resulted in a late harvest, almost a month later
than normal. There were a few short heat spikes during the late summer months with a cool
break in late August, which slowed down ripening and allowed for good acidity. Our Anapamu
Monterey County Pinot Noir expresses cranberry fruit with cola nut aromas, characteristic
of the Central Coast. This wine is a ruby garnet color, with aromas of cherry, sage and
cola nut. Oak and vanilla notes round out the wines flavor. On the palate, the wine
is of medium weight, silky and elegant in its finish. Try with pepper crusted, seared tuna
or leg of lamb roasted with spring vegetables. |
